John Grisham signs books after 25 year hiatus
So today was an historical one for me and John Grisham.
For me I got to meet John Grisham, an author I’ve long admired. I’ve enjoyed many of his books over the years. I’ve even ordered signed copies through Square Books in Oxford, MS.
But today I got my book signed in person by the author himself.
John Grisham hasn’t signed books in person in 25 years, so today was historical for him too.
The opportunity to see him was offered by Square Books a month ago when I entered a drawing to attend. I really had not expected to win but I did and had the lucky number, 33.
Square Books did a fantastic job staggering signers every 30 minutes to avoid long lines which worked well.
Grisham was personable and friendly and charming. I shared with him that I dreamed about the signing the night before. He asked if it was a nightmare. I assured him it was not. Just crowds of people trying to get close enough to hear what he had to say.
My signing time was 1:30pm, and he was going to speak at 5pm. I took a break at Starbucks and then went over to Off Square Books to hear the talk.
Along with Grisham, they had a panel of speakers including Mississippi authors, Ace Atkins and Tom Franklin, and the owner of the bookstore. They reminisced about the first signing Grisham did for The Firm, and how huge it was and that it lasted 14 hours. Wow! No wonder it’s been so long since he’s signed books in person.
They all talked about their experiences with book signings and their writing schedules and how often they publish among other things. Grisham announced his new podcast and that this talk was being recorded to include.
I highly recommend all of John Grisham’s books. I’ve read many of them and will let you know when I finish this newest book, Camino Island.
